Full investigation

In most situations the complaint is first investigated by the Internal Investigation Section of SAPOL, a team of experienced police officers.

The investigator will usually wish to speak to the complainant, the officers involved, and any other persons who can help with the investigation.

Investigations are carried out in strict confidence. The Office of the Police Ombudsman will monitor the progress of all investigations.

Full investigation typically occurs in cases where the allegations made are of an inherently serious nature, or that such a degree of investigation will be required if the matter is to be properly resolved. Generally a full investigation will require all parties involved to be interviewed or have comprehensive statements obtained.
